Why A Website Is No Longer An Option For Today’s Small Business

May 6

Every business today simply must have a website. This is no longer a negotiable item if you want to be competitive. Whether you’re a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, or a global organization, a website is imperative to your success in today’s market.

The yellow pages and phone books are no longer the main way consumers locate businesses when they need a product or service. With the low cost and availability of computers, laptops, netbooks, mobile phones, and other web ready tools, the Internet has now overshadowed the yellow pages and the vast majority of consumers now turn to the search engines to find services and products they need.

Consumers aren’t just searching for broad terms either. Consumers are for the most part searching for local businesses and resources.

When your target customer searches for your business online, are you there at all? If you do have a site, do you show up on the first page of the search engine results? If not, you really should invest in the very least a basic business site or a website upgrade if you already have a site. Work with a marketing savvy web designer who not only understands how to visually present your information, but how to market your products and services as well.

You need to show up when someone searches for you online because your target market can’t buy from you if they don’t know you exist!

At a minimum, you need to have a simple, clean, well designed website with good, informative, helpful content. This will ensure that at least you have a professional presence when someone searches for you.

What I recommend, is consistently adding new and fresh content to your website. Some people update their site every day through a blog. Some once or twice a week. Some business owners only update their site once a month. Facebook is the current wave on staying in site of your target market and keeping in touch with customers you already have. Do YOU have a Facebook Business site yet?

Obviously the more you update your content the better, but even one update now and then is better than zero updates.
